The Fashion Police

The Fashion Police live at my house.

As the kids and I were eating lunch today this is the conversation that ensued.

Angela: How do you get bangs? (or 'a fringe' for the non-American reader).

Moi: You cut them. ( I was busy feeding Daniel, so I wasn't into long explanatory answers at that moment).

Angela: Like this? (miming how one might cut bangs).

Moi: yep.

Angela: Why don't I have bangs?

Moi: Because once you get them you have to keep cutting them as they get in your face when they grow out. It's a pain.

Angela: Then why do you have them?

Moi: Because my mom gave them to me when I was little and I've never had the patience to grow them out.

Angela: *a lightbulb goes on* Aaaaaaaah. And you didn't want me to have to go through that! I'm glad you didn't give me bangs! I never want them! Why do people have them anyways??!

Moi: Because some people like the looks of them and don't mind cutting them from time to time.

She pondered that for awhile and the conversation continued...

Angela: I like your hair down like mine. Why do you put it in a ponytail?

Moi: To keep it out of the way.

David finally chimes in after hearing all this "hair talk".

David: I like your hair in your face.

Angela nods her agreement.

Moi: Huh?

Angela: Yes. You look cute with your hair in your face!

Moi: It drives me crazy. I prefer to keep it in a ponytail.

David: But mom! You look cool with your hair in your face!

...At which point I cracked up...

Keep in mind Angela is 7 and David is 5, and they're sounding more like teenagers! Lunch conversations are never boring with little kids!

Usually it just amounts to questions like this: "Mom, what if the whole world was made of icecream except for us?"

...in other news...

My parents were here for about a week and left. We all had a great time...but I simply never found the time to write about it. Been busy, busy, busy!!!!

...and this is all the time for blogging I have now.
