D-Day

The craziness has begun! I kicked off my exercise routine with a 1/2hr. walk in frigid weather! This did not count the 15 min. of strengthening/toning exercises I did earlier in the day. Even though, I had an intense craving for chocolate, I controlled myself and downed no more than 10 semi-sweet mini-chocolate chips. Trust me. I was craving an entire chocolate cake. I controlled myself immensely! Normally, I don't even crave chocolate--but of course--the day I decide to start my new exercise/health program--I craved chocolate. My motto for this New Year is "Never Give Up! Never Surrender!"--Buzz Lightyear.

Several observations were made on this walk. First though, to give you an idea of how cold it was, weather.com said it was 21F but felt like 11F. Yep. It felt like 11F alright! I started my walk at 10 to 10pm and finished at 10:20pm. I probably looked ridiculous in my snowboarding hat, jeans, sneakers, and pastel puffy blue coat, and black scarf--but I'm not spending money on some trendy cold-weather exercise outfit. I'm an ex-partial-Wisconite. I can take the cold! I may hate it, but I can take it. My legs, however, still hurt. Feels like a bunch of needles jabbing into them. I may consider some warm leggings for underneath my jeans.
Back to my observations--besides the obvious need for leggings...or thermal underwear of some sort...
A.)Sneakers just don't cut it.
People around here are very lax in shoveling their sidewalks. It's been 3 days since the snow! Shovel already! Kicked up a good bit of snow into my sneakers and it melted around my ankles and froze them off. I think I'll have to wear my boots next time.
B.)Glasses can be a hazard.
If I pulled my scarf up over my nose, so it didn't freeze off, my glasses would fog up and then I couldn't see where I was going. So I had to pull the scarf up and down, so my poor nose didn't get frost bitten.
C.)I need a different headset to go with my ipod. The ear buds kept falling out. I do eventually want to take my walk up a notch and start running. That won't work with the ipod and speakers I've got.
D.) After all that complaining--the walk itself was very peaceful and invigorating. Didn't see another soul. Apparently, no one else is as idiotic as I am.

Next Monday, I'll let y'all know if I actually lost any weight this week. I'll do so every Monday for accountability's sake. If I forget to do so...just let me know.

My memory is just not what it used to be. Could be brain freeze.

  1. Re: the iPod headphones. I have found that the set of headphones that work the best for walking is the sort with the metal "spring" that wraps from ear-to-ear. The little buds would fall out of my ears, but if you get the headphones mounted on the metal band (spring) whatever? those seem to work the best.

  2. I have like an ear phone collection lol The best earphones i got r my new ones. The cushy in-ear phones. They don't come out easily when u run. Outside earphones r a complete nuicance....and yeah, i don't like the earphones that comes with all the ipods.

  4. yikes! I mean "Elizabeth".

Someone (Ken) pointed out on Facebook that the "Never Give Up! Never Surrender!" quote is from Galaxy Quest, not Buzz Lightyear.

Told you I was losing my mind.

  5. I was noticing that my ear buds kept falling off just walking around the house and I finally looked at them. There's a tiny "L" and "R" on them. I switched them and they stayed in. Isn't that the silliest little thing? I know that's not your problem, but I thought I'd share the funny. :)
