The End is Near!

Not the end of the world that is...well, maybe it is...who knows?

However, I'm talking about the end of my weight staying where it is. There are 25 lbs. that need to go. They're going. Starting next week, I begin my exercise program in earnest. I've already been doing some situps, leg lifts etc., but always manage to sabotage my healthy 'diet' with a bunch of cookies or something at the end of the day.
Cedarville (Uni where my hubby works), is giving staff members and their families a gift card to a restaurant of their choice for exercising on a regular basis throughout the week. Depending on how much you exercise--the greater the value of the gift card. John signed us up for 30min. of exercise 4X a week. I'm going to shoot for 5. If I manage to do it 5X a week, I can then get a better gift card. It is kind of ironic that I'm doing all this exercise for a meal at a restaurant... ;-)
I am not giving out my starting weight on a public blog, but I will let my readers know how much weight I've lost each week, starting Monday to give myself some sort of accountability. I could use a little encouragement here! It gets harder to lose the weight when it's been the same for awhile.
In addition to the exercise, I'm doing a few other certain things to help my 'diet'. I call it a 'diet'--in quotes--because I don't believe in depriving myself to the point of hunger. It's more like getting myself to eat healthier. Also, I'm breastfeeding and intend to do so for quite a while to come yet, so I need to lose the weight in a healthy manner.
My limits are: No more than 2 cups of tea a day (or 1 cup of tea and 1 cup of coffee), no more than 2 small treats a day, and more protein and fiber and less carbs. I may have to cut down on those treats some more if I'm still not losing any weight after a couple weeks. I've noticed when I'm really working out that if I have an egg or two a day it really cuts down on my hunger level. Extra fruits and vegetables also help with that "full" feeling and keep me from craving sweets and carbs too much. I'm also going to really focus on listening to my body by only eating until I'm satisfied--smaller portions being the idea. I'm also not going to let myself eat anything after 8 pm.
Anyone else wanting to do this with me let me know! Accountability helps!!

In other news...

Daniel is really trying to stand on his own. He crawls up any box or object he can find and gets himself almost-standing. He's still kind of leaning over. He army crawls EVERYwhere. Follows me into the kitchen. Removes magnets (kid-friendly ones) off the fridge. Tries to climb into the dishwashwer while I'm loading/unloading it. Almost got up to the 2nd step in our house today. Pulled the phone off the coffee table by the cord. Chases the vacuum cleaner down and smacks it with his hand and then tries to eat it's cord WHILE I'm trying to vacuum! Most kids are scared of noisy vacuum cleaners--he attacks them! Finally put him in his 'walker' to remedy that problem. Managed to prop himself up enough on his diaper box to open his father's 3rd drawer on his dresser and smack himself in the head with it. So...really starting to have my hands full with him--in a good way. :-)

John is getting all his exercise shoveling. :-P The kids have been out at least 2-3 times everyday in the snow! I think they're getting more fresh air this winter than they did in the summer! I'll be getting my fresh air when I start my walks after 9pm at night. If I did my walks/jogs early in the morning in WI in the winter--I can do nighttime ones here. It's the only time I'll have to get in 30 uninterrupted minutes of exercise. I do find those early/late times peaceful. Plus I'll have my ipod with me now, so it'll almost be like a mini-vacation! :-)

  1. If you haven't seen them already, get yourself a copy of the Eat This Not That book. Or books. There is a supermarket one, one with restaurants and some supermarket stuff, and one for kids. We got them rather cheaply at half.com. It's very eye-opening as to all of the junk we eat. I'm also on a goal to lose about 20-25 lbs by the end of the year. I plan to use the Wii Fit some and just stop eating so many sweets. When I was on the diabetic diet during pregnancy, I noticed that just limiting my carbs made the weight melt off. So that's my plan. We can check up on each other :)

  3. I'm actually a bit of a health nuts and have read lots of health books--however, I can't incorporate all I've learned because of picky eaters in the fam--and budget restrictions. I am working towards making more things from 'scratch' because that is cheaper too.
I definitely notice that just dropping the sweets and cutting the carbs make the pounds fly off that much faster. I think I'll just post on here weekly if I lost anything or not. Monday will be "Ground Zero".

Thanks Clint for the Facebook Fitness app and the encouragement!! Making use of that too!

  4. They aren't health books. What the author does is take a look at pre-packaged foods and restaurant foods (including ones that don't publish nutritional info) and tell you what's bad about them. I know you can just read labels, which I do, but he has some very good insights. He gives suggestions of how to change the way you eat prepackaged and canned things. I was rather shocked by some of the poor quality of prepackaged things, like boxed mac and cheese. Find them at the library!

  5. Well, I guess I'll have to read 'em when I get the chance! I have already cut out as much prepackaged food as I can. I know the majority is no good for you. We rarely eat things like boxed mac and cheese cause I did know the nutritional value is next to zilch. The kids, thankfully, like to eat salads, so I try and have them alot as well as at least two vegetable dishes a day--either from fresh or frozen veggies without any additives.
